Ann Stran McCurley Watson, ``Big Mama,'' of the 100 block of 49th St., in Virginia Beach, died Nov. 22, 1994, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
A native of Baltimore, she was a graduate of Goucher College and was an administrator for the State of Maryland prior to her marriage in 1942 to Hugh Wood, a naval aviator. After his death in 1950, she moved to Virginia Beach and married James Powell Watson Jr., who died in 1991. Mrs. Watson had been a volunteer at Virginia Beach General Hospital and at the Sugar Plum Bakery.
Mrs. Watson is survived by three sons, Hugh Kelleher Wood of Norfolk, Michael McCurley Wood of Virginia Beach and Timothy Creighton Wood of Paris, France; a stepdaughter, Bonnie Adams of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Harriet Trout of Richmond and Katherine Emerson of Orange, Conn.; and 11 grandchildren, Virginia Wood, Hannah Wood and Frances Wood of Norfolk, Duncan Wood and Timmy Wood of Krefeld, Germany, Andrew Wood and Cindy Wood of Paris, France, Kelley Gomez, Riley Gomez and Nicholas Gomez of Virginia Beach and Elizabeth Gomez of Miami. She was predeceased by her twin brother, James Webb McCurley Jr.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Eastern Shore Chapel, 2020 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Irwin Lewis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sugar Plum, Inc., or Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
