BOY ACCUSED IN GUN CASE

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy late Tuesday and charged him with possessing a firearm on school property after he allegedly pointed a gun at a school bus.

The boy, who was not identified because of his age, was taken to Tidewater Detention Home, police said. He also was charged with brandishing a firearm and vehicular trespassing.

Police said the boy boarded a school bus headed for I.C. Norcom High School on Tuesday morning and decided to get off at the 1500 block of Richmond Ave. near Duke Street, a school bus stop.

The boy, who is not a Norcom student, bumped into an 18-year-old girl who was boarding the bus as he was leaving, police said. The girl reportedly asked him whether he would first let her take a seat. Witnesses told police that the boy said ``no'' and threatened to shoot her.

After the 16-year-old stepped off the bus, police said, he pointed a ``small caliber'' handgun at the window where the girl was sitting. No shots were fired. Police said the bus driver immediately drove off.

Police said the boy may have boarded the bus with friends. The gun had not been found by Wednesday afternoon.

On Monday, an 18-year-old Churchland High student was stabbed on a school bus. Two brothers were arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

The victim, Terrance E. Taylor, was in stable condition Wednesday at Maryview Medical Center.
