Two people were shot, one fatally, in their motel room Thursday night, police said.
The names of the victims were not immediately released.
Police were called to the El Camino Motel in the 1800 block of Diamond Springs Road near Shore Drive at 7:34 p.m. after a man who had been shot entered the motel office to seek help.
When police arrived a few moments later, the man said a woman - believed to be his girlfriend - had also been shot. When officers reached Room 36, they found the woman, believed to be about 40, inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man, believed to be in his mid-30s, was taken to the Trauma Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was reported in critical condition.
Police said they have no motive for the shootings and no suspects. The two adjacent rooms in the one-story building were vacant.
