Sophia Barnak, of Homestead Road, died Nov. 23, 1994, in her residence.
She was a native of Poland, and was the wife of the late Frank Barnak. She was owner and operator of the Sophia Barnak Grocery Store in Bowers Hill, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Valentine Sophie Lennon, and husband, John, of Oxnard, Calif.; two grandchildren, Charles Frank Lennon of Goleta, Calif., and Sharon Judith Mehlschau of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and one great-granddaughter, Valerie Brandy Mehlschau.
The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday in St. Mary's Catholic Church by the Rev. Charles J. Faul. Burial will be in Portsmouth Catholic Cemetery. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling the arrangements. The family will greet friends at the church on Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. The family will meet at the church at 10 a.m. Monday for a procession to the cemetery.
