LA VERNE S. HITT

La Verne S. Hitt, 51, of the 1300 block of Gabriel Drive, died Nov. 22, 1994.

She was a native of Norfolk and was a lifelong member of Tidewater Gospel Assembly Church. She was also a member of ``Reflections'' gospel trio, the past president of P.T.A. Ingleside Elementary School, past president of River Oaks Civic Association, and she represented the Republican Party at the polls during the elections.

She is survived by her husband, John David Hitt Sr.; two sons, John David Hitt Jr. and Thomas Gordon Hitt, both of Norfolk; her mother, Hilda S. Blood and her stepfather, Charles E. Blood, both of Norfolk; two sisters, Julia S. Peach of Spring, Texas, and Sylvia S. Green of Chesapeake; three nephews and two nieces. She was predeceased by her father, Julian Perkins Squires.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Tidewater Gospel Assembly Church by the Rev. Thomas Lord and the Rev. William Waters. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Holloman-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, is handling the arrangements. Family will receive friends at the church Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., 5747 Sellger Dr., Norfolk, and all other times at 5342 Pine Grove Ave., Norfolk.
