REMA Y. DUNFORD JR.

Rema Young ``Jack'' Dunford Jr., born on May 26, 1922, in Akron, Ohio, died Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 1994, as a result of cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ida Burkhardt Dunford; three sons and their wives, Dan and Charlene, Tom and Wally, and Bob and Kay. He is also survived by three grandsons, John, Darrel and Robert; one granddaughter, Michele Firth and her husband, Steve; and a great-granddaughter Priscilla. He has two sisters, Betty Brantly and husband, Richard, and Pat Higginbatham and husband, Mitch.

As a veteran of WWII, he entered the Navy in July 1940 and performed services in the theaters of the Pacific and Atlantic and served on the U.S.S. Yorktown when it was sunk. He retired from the Navy in June 1961 as a Senior Master Chief with 21 years service and continued his government service until his retirement from Civil Service in August 1979 with a total of 39 years of government service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Eastminster Presbyterian Church on McDonald Road, The American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in the name of Rema Y. Dunford.

Funeral services will be conducted at Holloman-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Monday at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Princess Anne Memorial Park following the services will full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
