NETTIE S. SAMPSON

Nettie Sue Samuel Sampson, a native of Spartanburg County, S.C., the widow of the late Nolie Sampson Sr., died Nov. 24, 1994. She was a Methodist. She found Christ at an early age and became a member of St. John A.M.E. Zion Church in Roanoke, Va.

She received her early education from Lucy Addison High School in Roanoke. She received the Bachelor of Science Degree from Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C.

She was a former member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Sigma Chapter of Salisbury, N.C.

She taught mathematics and science at Ruffner Junior High School in Norfolk for 12 years and was Chairman of its Math Dept. for two years. She taught math at Rosemont Junior High School for 11 years and retired from there in 1983.

She was a member of the National Education Association, a life member of Tidewater Council of Mathematics Teachers, and a life member of Livingstone College Alumni Associates.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolie Sampson Sr.; an adopted son, David Sampson; her mother and father, Hattie J. Samuel and Henry Samuel; three brothers, Earlis Samuel, Pious Samuel, and Bernard Samuel; her maternal grandparents; Sadie Jeter and Cal Jeter; and her paternal grandparents, Elma Samuel and Thomas Samuel.

Survivors are a step-son, Nolie Sampson Jr., and his wife, Ann Fenner Sampson, both of Oxen Hill, Md.; a daughter-in-law, Maxine Powell Sampson of Norfolk; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Warren Samuel and Louise P. Samuel, both of Roanoke, and Lucille S. Knight of Norfolk; three nieces, Patricia Parker, Mabel Holland, and Janis Robertson, all of Roanoke; two nephews, Thomas H. Samuel and his wife, Catha Samuel, both of Albany, Ga., and John Samuel and his wife, Gloria Samuel, both of Roanoke; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends.

Viewing will begin today at 4 p.m. in Hale Funeral Home. The remains will be flown to Britten Neck, S.C. A funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Bethel A.M.E. Church, Britten Neck, S.C., by the Rev. R.W. Crummy.
