CAROL VANTURE CHESSON

Carol Vanture Chesson, 73, 1411 Horner St., Elizabeth City, died at her residence Thursday evening at 6:45 p.m. She was a native of Virginia and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years as secretary to the Post Master of Elizabeth City. Mrs. Chesson was the daughter of the late Charles and Lenore McGinnis Vanture and the widow of the late Richard Harold Chesson. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving includes a daughter, Melinda Miller Haines of North Palm Beach, Fla.; a son, William Claughton Miller of Elizabeth City; two step daughters, Claudia Chesson White of Hertford and Harriett Chesson Rutter of Newport News, Va.; a sister Olga Paul of Chicago, Ill, and one brother, Paul Vanture of Alexandria, Va.; six grandchildren and four step grandchildren. Also, she is survived by a close companion for many years, Sherm Leavitt of Camden.

Serving are pending and Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Church St., is in charge of arrangements. The family will be at her residence, 1411 Horner Street.
