VIRGINIA A. YOUNG

Virginia A ``Ginny'' Young, of the 1500 block of Mill Dam Road, died on Thanksgiving evening, Nov. 24, 1994.

She was born in New Orleans, La. She graduated from the Sacred Heart Convent in New Orleans and was proud of having played the organ in her godfather's (Father Pierre) church. Later she resided in Washington, D.C., and in Virginia Beach. She worked for many years as a medical secretary in the Washington, D.C., area and retired to Virginia each to be near family.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She has served as a volunteer for the Meals-on-Wheels program, and as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Virginia Beach General Hospital. She was a past winner of the Senior Olympics one-mile swim for the state of Virginia. She was a very special person and seldom missed an opportunity to help others.

She is survived by one sister, Rosemary Grandy of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three daughters, Shirley Vaughn and husband, Frank Vaughn of Belle Chasse, La., Lyndall Spangler of Norfolk, and Patricia Pierce and husband, Robert Pierce, of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Jodie, Cindy, and Bucky Vaughn of Belle Chasse, La., James Pierce of Chesapeake, Jan Spangler of Seaforth, Va., Karen Pope of Virginia Beach, and Cheryl Buckley of Durham, N.H.; seven great-grandchildren, Colby Pierce, Lauren and Christopher Parker, Connor Buckley, and Brittny, Mary, and Emily Pope.

The family invites friends to attend a memorial prayer service being held by Father Noto in the Chapel of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 712 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, at 7 p.m. Sunday. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, are handling the arrangements.
