There is a reason for everything that happens in this wonderful world of ours, including the timing and content of articles and editorials that appear in the Raleigh News and Observer.
Recently, the News and Observer has chosen to ``expose'' the relationship between Sen. Marc Basnight and the Division of Marine Fisheries relative to citations for catch violations.
Unfortunately, the same reports failed to include the fact that from 1987-1993, the northern district has experienced a 265 percent increase in actual citations while all other districts experienced a decline in citation statistics.
Unless you want to defuse his influence by writing a misleading account of this situation, it appears he is actually just doing his job. And like always - doing a good job of it.
Those of us in northeastern North Carolina who regularly re-elect Sen. Basnight do so because he so genuinely tries to represent our humble, hard- working corner of the state. Clearly that rankles certain parties that once had the influence and chose to ignore the northeast. I for one am confident that once the DMF takes the politics out its citation process, then the politics will stop altogether, as it should. That would be good for everybody except the few who always look for a reason to run down a dedicated man who just happens to be from some place other than Raleigh.
