DEMOCRACY RESTORED

With the help of God and the power of the vote, the citizens of Bertie County, on Nov. 8, restored democracy in the county. A hundred years of ``plantation politics power'' and the ``will of a chosen few'' was swept away forever. Three new county commissioners were elected who are for all the people all the time. The power of ``the people'' is now at ease in Bertie County, N.C.

A new era has begun in the county. An era where all the people will be represented fairly and without one-sidedness. An era where secrecy of government will no longer be tolerated. An era where the people no longer have to fear that local government representatives will sacrifice their heritage and children's future to garbage and filth. An era where persons working for local and state government can speak their minds freely. An era where local government employees and school teachers can hold an office in a civic organization without fear of losing their job or ther reprisals if their opinions are different from their bosses. An era where the will of the majority is the order of the day. Yes, celebration is in order for Bertie county.

The time has come to get behind our newly elected county commissioners. Let's all help make Bertie County the best place to live.
