LOTS TO SMILE ABOUT

Now that we have had an opportunity to look over the election results, we do have some things to smile about!

I know we are all disappointed that Chuck Elms and Bill Hauschild didn't make it. Of course, we are all excited that Walter Jones Jr. won.

Some of us wonder why we didn't do better when the entire country and the rest of the state were going so strongly Republican.

There were 47 partisan races. Of those 47 races, we had only 16 Republican candidates. Of those 16 Republican, 10 won. It would be reasonable to conclude that if we had 47 candidates instead of 16, over 60 percent would have been victorious. If all the positions had been contested by Republicans, we could well have elected Chuck, Bill and Jim Beales.

This is why a complete slate is necessary. It rounds out the team. It prevents the Democrats from concentrating their resources. We should set a goal for ourselves that NO position held by a Democrat goes uncontested next time.
