SHERYL SCRIBNER: TELLER AT NATIONSBANK, PILOT

BANK TELLER Sheryl Scribner still remembers the time she got lost over South Boston. She was piloting a Cessna 150 at about 2,000 feet.

``I didn't set my compass right and I remember I started looking at the visual aids - the railroad tracks and rivers - and realized that something wasn't right.

``I had to reset my compass. I was going in the right direction, but I wasn't in the right place.''

Scribner, 34, said she got her pilot's license because she and her former husband used to take their children on vacation to Maine.

``I got tired of the 22-hour drive with the children in the car.''

Today, because flying has become so expensive, Scribner said she doesn't take to the air as much as she'd like, but she is glad she has her pilot's license.

Most people don't know Scribner as a pilot, however. Customers see her every day at the drive-through window at NationsBank in Suffolk, where she's worked for almost six years.

``Banking gives me the opportunity to work with people and figures - and I like both,'' she said. ``It gives me the people contact.''
