HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS

HOSPITALS LIGHT TREES: Mary-view Medical Center and Portsmouth General Hospital will hold tree-lighting ceremonies Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

The 11th Annual Holiday Light Tree will be illuminated at 6 p.m. Monday in a ceremony outside Maryview Medical Center.

Funds raised from this year's tree lighting will go toward the support of cancer programs at the hospital. Donations of $5 or more will be recognized with a tree light; donations of $25 or more will be recognized with a star light; donations of $100 or more are recognized with a star burst. A card will be sent to the person or family of the person being honored.

Portsmouth General Hospital will illuminate its Love Light Tree at 7 p.m. Tuesday in front of the hospital.

Every $5 donation buys one light, while every $100 donation buys a bulb in the star. A card will be sent to the person or family of the person being honored. Proceeds from the Love Light Tree will be used to purchase a mobile EKG to be used in the new diagnostic van donated by the Auxiliary to Portsmouth General Hospital.

Forms for gifts to the Love Light Tree may be obtained from the gift shop of Portsmouth General Hospital, 850 Crawford Parkway.

HOLIDAY BAZAAR: The Portsmouth/West Chesapeake Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Chapter House, 700 London Blvd.

The event will include a white elephant sale, a craft sale and a bake sale. A barbecue lunch plate will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $3. Call Faith McArdle at 393-1031 for information.

HOLIDAY EVENTS: The city's Sugar and Spice Holiday of Events will kick off Saturday with Breakfast With Santa at 8:30 a.m. at Tower Mall. Tickets are $3 per person and are available at the Tower Mall information booth or the Parks and Recreation Department, third floor, City Hall. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Later in the day, crafters and caroling vendors will be at Veterans' Riverfront Park from noon to 6 p.m. for a Holiday Winterfest bazaar. At 6:30 p.m., the city's Holiday Tree Lighting will take place at Riverfront Park. High school choirs and the Hampton Roads Chamber Ensemble Brass will provide holiday music.

A Holiday Parade down High Street, from Washington Street to the waterfront, will begin at 7 p.m. For information, call 393-8481.

HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVES: Western Branch/Churchland Family Chiropractic Center, 3115 Western Branch Blvd., Chesapeake, will hold a Holiday Food Drive on Saturday.

In exchange for non-perishable food to be donated to the Salvation Army, the chiropractic center will offer complimentary services. Balloons, door prizes and refreshments will be available. Call 483-6000 for information.

In addition, Tidewater Lifecycles Clinic, 4305 Portsmouth Blvd., collects canned goods year-round for the Salvation Army. Established patients who donate canned goods will receive chiropractic services, massage therapy, fitness training or physical therapy at a reduced price. Call 465-1666 for information.

OBICI HOUSE CHRISTMAS: The Obici House, at Sleepy Hole Park on the Nansemond River, will open for ``An Olde Virginia Christmas'' from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Music, crafters, a bake shop, refreshments and Santa will be available. Admission is free, but donations and proceeds from sales will go to the HER Shelter for battered women. Call 488-0966 for information. MEMO: Each Sunday through New Year's, Currents will publish ``Holiday
