CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS

The City Council took the following actions at its meeting Tuesday:

Use-permit application of Wenson Ge, vice president of China Market, for a general merchandise store at 3535 Airline Blvd. Approved, 7-0

Ordinance granting a proposal to amend Article IV Historic District, to allow conversions of houses more than 5,000 square feet that do not meet dimension requirements. Approved, 7-0

Resolution granting use-permit application of Joyce DeBause to convert existing structure to a triplex at 415-419 Court St. Approved, 7-0

Resolution granting use-permit application of Paul Battle to use 914 Dandridge Drive as a residential care facility. Approved, 7-0

Motion to adopt a resolution authorizing the city's 1995 Legislative Proposals to be presented to the Portsmouth Delegation for action in the 1995 General Assembly session, deferred from the regular meeting Nov. 8. Approved, 5-2; Clemons and Pitts opposed

Motion to adopt an ordinance to appropriate $171,000 from the Capital Improvements Fund for demolition, streets, and utility improvements in the PortCentre Commerce Park; motion requesting permission to exceed 25 percent limit to fund additional utility demolition; motion to award contract for each project to low bidder. Approved, 7-0

Motion to adopt an ordinance to close a number of streets and lanes in PortCentre area; closure of these streets and lanes will provide a site for potential commercial development. Approved, 7-0

Motion to adopt an ordinance to amend the city code by amending Section 30-237 (b), pertaining to police and fire service retirement allowances. Approved, 7-0

Motion to adopt resolution authorizing issuance of bond anticipation notes in amount of $5 million for period of 212 days. Approval of resolution will provide funding for projects now in progress. Approved, 7-0
