DEFENSE-LESS GRIPING

During the Bush administration, cuts in defense spending were heralded as the ``peace dividend,'' enabled by the ``New World Order.'' Defense cuts under President Clinton are called ``treason'' and ``gutting our armed forces.''

If our armed forces are so seriously undermined, how was the military able to respond simultaneously to crises in the Middle East and Haiti?

Also, to those who gripe about the ``Clinton agenda,'' at last he has a domestic agenda. The centerpiece of George Bush's domestic policy was a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning. As Ollie North would say, when is the last time anyone gave a rat's patootie about flag burning?
