In his Imaginary Conversations, English poet and prose artist Walter Savage Landor (1775-1864) found a vehicle for his many views by bringing together in dialogue form people from classical times to the 19th century. Similarly, Steve Allen's finest contribution to television was his series ``meeting of minds.''
Perhaps there are readers who might, in the manner of Landor and Allen, create ``imaginary conversations'' for the following: Nelson Mandela and Jesse Helms; Gloria Steinhem and Phyllis Shaffley; William F. Buckley Jr. and Gore Vidal; the Rev. Ian Paisley and the pope; Pat Robertson and Madalyn Murray O'Hair; Sen. Strom Thurmond and Jesse Jackson; and perhaps other pairs.
