More crafters than ever before will be participating in the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad Auxiliary's Sixth Annual Craft Show this weekend.
Scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, this year's show is being held at Hardy Elementary School, 9311 Hardy Circle, for the first time. Sherry Jones, one of the show's organizers, said the extra space has enabled the show's size to nearly double with about 25 crafters.
``Changing the location was feared by some,'' Jones said. ``But moving has opened a lot of doors for us.
``I have heard a lot of good things from people who are going to be in the show,'' she said. ``I really think it will be a worthwhile move.''
Craft shoppers can expect to find an array of handiworks, Jones said, including ceramics, jewelry, wreaths, woodcrafts, keychains, shirts, Christmas decorations and flags.
Crafts aren't the only thing being sold at the show, she said. Squad auxiliary members will raise money by operating a concession stand, selling cookbooks, sponsoring a bake sale and raffling off donated prizes. Items to be raffled include a Smithfield ham, color television and a homemade afghan.
In addition, the Isle of Wight Health Department will be on hand to conduct blood pressure and cholesterol screenings.
``In past years, we have been able to raise a couple of thousand dollars for the rescue squad,'' Jones said. ``I think we are going to have a great show this year, too.'' MEMO: For more information, call Sherry Jones at 357-3204. by CNB
