Marilyn Shagla Brant, 47, died Nov. 29, 1994, in her Chimney Hill home.
Mrs. Brant was a native of Sugar Grove, Pa., where she graduated from high school in 1965 and from Jamestown Business College, Jamestown, N.Y., in 1967. She moved to Tidewater in 1977. Mrs. Brant was active in local arts and cultural interests including numerous Community Theater plays and projects. She served on the Board of Directors for the Little Theater of Virginia Beach, was Editor-in-Chief of On Stage Magazine, volunteered on the initial Tidewater AIDS Council, and volunteered many weekends facilitating Personal Growth Workshops for the U.S. Navy Chaplains Corps.
She is survived by her husband, retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Franklin Brant; a daughter, Bethany Brant of Renton, Wash.; and a brother, David Shagla of Sugar Grove, Pa. She is also survived by her father, Vance Shagla of Sugar Grove, Pa., and was predeceased by her mother, Erma Shagla.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today in Christ Lutheran Church, 6510 N. Military Highway, Norfolk, by the Rev. J. Elmer Medley. A graveside service will be held at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Sugar Grove, Pa., on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
