George James Mitchell, 75, of Route 1, a retired U.S. Army master sergeant first class, died Nov. 27, 1994.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Middlesex, N.C. He was the widower of Amaza Wynn Mitchell. He was a member and deacon of Philippi Baptist Church, member of the Male Chorus and assistant superintendent of the Sunday School. He was vice mayor of Cofield, a City Council member and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene M. Hoard of Madison, Tenn., and Deborah Warren of Manassas, Va.; a brother, Lloyd Mitchell of Portsmouth; and three grandchildren, Raiesha Warren, Darren Warren and Lauren Hoard.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Philippi Baptist Church, Cofield, by the Rev. Elton Hall Jr. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Hunter's Funeral Home, Ahoskie.
