The father of a month-old baby has been charged with felony child neglect and murder, police said Tuesday.
Fred Weber, 26, is accused of killing his son, Andrew, by violently shaking him on Nov. 17, police spokesman Larry Hill said.
That night, Hill said, the child's parents took the baby to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital because he was not breathing. The boy was transferred to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, where he died Sunday morning.
The assault occurred in the family home in the 300 block of East Little Creek Road, police said. The father was first charged with child abuse; the murder charge was added after the child died.
Weber is being held in the City Jail on a $7,500 bond.
