HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL WHAT A SEASON

It would be hard to say which was more thrilling:

Dee Harrell's heart-stopping dive into the end zone during the last three ticks of the clock to win the Eastern Region Division 5 championship for Deep Creek.

Or James Boyd's dogged refusal to surrender the ball in the final minutes of the game to cinch the Eastern Region Division 6 title for Indian River.

Either event would have made Chesapeake high school sports history. But both together on the same day? Wow!

The best wishes of the whole city were with the players, coaches and fans of these two fine football teams as Chesapeake was represented in semifinal games in not one, but two divisions of the state championship series Saturday.

At the time this is being written, the outcome of those games is not known, but no matter. Whatever it says on today's sports pages, the Braves and the Hornets have done their hometown mighty proud. by CNB
