MAUREEN M. FORTIER

Maureen McGrath Fortier, the daughter of Richard James and Claire Banta McGrath, was born in Passaic, NJ but raised in Virginia Beach, Va. Upon her marriage to L. Renshaw Fortier, she traveled extensively before returning in 1968 to take up permanent residence in Virginia Beach.

Mrs. Fortier was an active member of the Roman Catholic First Landing Parish of Ft. Story, the Virginia Beach General Hospital Auxiliary, the Princess Anne Garden Club, and numerous other charitable organizations. Recently she was honored by being elected a Dame of Malta in the Archdiocese of New York.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Claire Fortier of Lake Tahoe, CA and Mary Julia Fortier of Virginia Beach; three sons and their wives, Richard J. and Nancy Driver Fortier of Smithfield, VA, L. Renshaw Jr. and Mary Pat McSherry Fortier of Virginia Beach, and Louis J. II and Karen Lindemann Fortier of Peachtree City, GA; her sister Claire B. Seawell of Greensboro, NC and brother Richard J. McGrath, Jr. of Williamsburg, VA; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth B. Fortier, Christopher R. Fortier, Stewart J. Fortier, and Hyler C. Fortier.

A rosary service will be held in the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, at 7:00pm, Sunday evening, Dec. 4. A Catholic Mass will be conducted at the Eastern Shore Chapel at 11:00am, Monday, Dec. 5, followed by interment in the Eastern Shore Cemetery, Virginia Beach.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the Garden Clubs of Virginia, the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center or Lee's Friends.
