600 IN VA. BEACH LOSE ELECTRICAL POWER AFTER CAR ACCIDENT

Electric service was cut Saturday to about 600 customers when a vehicle hit a power pole at the corner of North Landing and Salem roads and knocked down the overhead lines.

The accident occurred at about 5 a.m. Workers restored power to all customers by 1:49 p.m. Saturday, said Junius H. Williams Jr., spokesman for Virginia Power.

Williams said the Virginia Beach Municipal Center lost power, but electrical service was restored there by 6:30 a.m.

Residential customers along North Landing Road, Indian River Road, Salem Road and Blackwater Road were affected by the outage, Williams said.

The driver involved in the accident was not injured, according to police.
