Larry Schwab stepped down Monday as head boys basketball coach at Norfolk Collegiate.
He'll be replaced on an interim basis by athletic director Larry Swearingen. Schwab was 56-58 in four-plus seasons at Norfolk Collegiate, including 1-3 this season.
``He cited personal reasons and said he wants to spend more time with his family,'' Swearingen said of Schwab.
Swearingen previously served as girls varsity and junior varsity coach and boys junior varsity coach.
He coached the girls varsity for 11 seasons ending in 1988-89 and compiled a 152-97 record that included one Tidewater Conference title.
TONIGHT'S GAMES: Nine of the area's top 10 boys basketball teams will be in action. The feature attraction has No. 1 Bayside visiting No. 8 Green Run.
It will be the season opener for the Marlins, who won 11 of their last 14 a year ago. It will also be a rematch of last year's Beach District tournament title game, which the Stallions won, 67-61, to gain a berth in the Eastern Region tournament.
Green Run and Bayside split their regular-season series last season.
In two other games of note, Jason Capel makes his freshman debut with No. 6 Indian River as the Braves visit Lake Taylor, and Deep Creek visits No. 7 Maury.
In the top girls basketball game, 10th-ranked Great Bridge is at No. 4 Booker T. Washington. Great Bridge crushed No. 10 Maury, 64-18, in its opener. by CNB
