KEMPSVILLE, TALLWOOD CLAIM TOP PLAYERS PISHIONERI, WILSON NAMED BEST OF YEAR ON ALL-BEACH DISTRICT TEAM.

MIKE PISHIONERI and Alvin Wilson lead the 1994 All-Beach District football team as players of the year.

Kempsville's Pishioneri is the offensive player, while Tallwood's Wilson was chosen on defense.

The district's 10 coaches made the selections, as well as the first- and second-team offensive and defensive teams.

Pishioneri finished the regular season as the second-leading rusher in the area and district behind Princess Anne's Mike Majette. The Cavalier had 1,325 yards and an average of 7.1 a carry, while ``Pish'' had 1,216. But the Chiefs workhorse led the area in scoring with 132 points on 22 touchdowns. He also threw for one on a halfback option pass.

The senior was second in the area in total offense, adding 158 yards receiving to his rushing totals.

Wilson made the move this season from defensive back - where he often got burned because of his aggressiveness - to defensive end, where he caused major problems to opposing offenses.

He helped Tallwood to its first winning season and playoff appearance, as the Lions finished fourth in the area in total defense and points allowed.

Green Run, which was unbeaten heading into the season finale with Kempsville, led the coaches' balloting with seven first-team selections.

First Colonial, which came on strong at the end of the season to secure coach Frank Webster's position of never having a losing season with the Patriots, was second with five players.

Kempsville, which defeated Green Run in that Beach District championship game before advancing to the Eastern Region Division 6 championship, had four players on first team.

Tallwood also placed four on the first team.

Among the first-teamers were several standout performers who left their mark in the final area statistics.

Stallions quarterback Glenwood Ferebee finished his career as the No. 2 passer in the area with 1,112 yards. He was first among area quarterbacks with 19 touchdowns.

Princess Anne's Ray Gatlin was eighth in pass receiving and first in the Beach with 388 yards on only 18 catches - good for third in the area in per-catch average with 21.6 yards a reception.

First Colonial led the area in the kicking game - with place kicker Jesse Harris as the No. 2 kick scorer with 44 points on 32 extra points and four field goals. Punter Corey Fogle was first in the area with a 36.2-yard average. ILLUSTRATION: Staff photos by CHARLIE MEADS
