Russell Barborie ``Buck'' Wayland Jr., 86, of the 2400 block of Bidgood Drive, a retired planner and estimator, died Dec. 5, 1994, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Wayland, a native of Roanoke, Va., was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 43 years. He was a member and deacon emeritus of Port Norfolk Baptist Church; member of Tidal Wave Masonic Lodge (NU)273; Port Norfolk Royal Arch Chapter (NU)36; past commander of Portsmouth Commandery (NU)5, Knights Templar; Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies; Khedive Temple; past patron of Tidal Wave Chapter (NU)9 OES; and treasurer of the Portsmouth Concert Association.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Conner Wayland; a son, Dr. Russell B. Wayland III of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Leroy Hoggard and Mrs. Doris Smith, both of Portsmouth; a brother, James J. ``Jack'' Wayland of Harrisonburg, Va.; and two grandchildren, Coral Barborie Wayland and Samuel Wesley Wayland of Palm Beach, Fla.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Port Norfolk Baptist Church by Dr. Ector L. Hamrick. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at 2400 Bidgood Drive, Portsmouth. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, is handling arrangements.
