S. DRURY HARDY JR.

Samuel Drury Hardy Jr., 80, of the 1300 block of Windsor Point Road, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 6, 1994, in his residence.

He was a vice president with the Oakwood Coal and Supply Co. and retired after 50 years with the company.

Mr. Hardy was born in Norfolk and was the son of the late Ida James Robertson Hardy and Samuel Drury Hardy Sr. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Owens Masonic Lodge (NU)164, Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Shrine Temple, American Legion Post 204, Elks Lodge (NU)38, and was a former member of the Charles H. Consolvo Tent Circus Saints and Sinners. He was an Army veteran of World War II and took part in the Normandy Invasion. He also loved boating and was the former Commodore of the Tidewater Yacht Club, and was a member of the Smithfield Yacht Club.

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Whitehurst Hardy; a brother, George B. Hardy of Norfolk; two nieces, Elizabeth H. Parks of Virginia Beach and Margaret H. Folta of Tucson, Ariz.; and a great-niece, Anne H. Parks of Virginia Beach.

A graveside funeral service with Masonic rites will be conducted on Thursday, Dec. 8, 1994, at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. J. Shepherd Russell Jr. The family will receive friends at Cox Funeral Home this evening from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to your local SPCA or to Lee's Friends of Norfolk.
