Where has columnist Marc Tibbs been in the past few months? Surely not in downtown Norfolk. Is he missing the rejuvenation of Granby Mall?
Thanks to the vision and efforts of Dr. Larry Whitworth, president of Tidewater Community College, the hard work of the TCC Norfolk Center employees and the Norfolk City Council, there will be a downtown Norfolk again. To deride Granby Mall, making it sound like a wasteland inhabited by derelicts and dangerous to individuals, is a great disservice to all people trying to make a go of the project.
I, too, can remember downtown Norfolk in its heyday. But time passes. Changes will be made. Right now is the time for all of us who call Norfolk home to emphasize the good things to come, not the decline in the past.
Tidewater Community College's new campus is a wonderful beginning, and the merchants and lights and people will follow.
Please, no more putdowns of Norfolk. We are proud of the efforts and accomplishments of many people involved in its comeback.
