RUSSELL B. HARPER

Russell Benjamin Harper of the 100 block of Allard Road, a retired seaman, died Dec. 4, 1994, in Chesapeake General Hospital.

Mr. Harper was born in Norfolk and was retired from the National Maritime Union. He was a member of St. Paul CME Church, Sons of Norfolk, Inc., and Raphael Masonic Lodge (NU)162 P.H. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary H. Harper, and father, the Rev. Benjamin W. Harper.

Survivors include his wife, Magdalene C. Harper; a stepdaughter, Marion Hathaway of New York City; a sister, Julia H. Newsome of Virginia Beach; a brother-in-law, James A. Newsome of Virginia Beach; and several cousins of Norfolk, Washington, D.C., New York City and Richmond.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Paul CME Church, 310 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., by the Rev. T.R. McKenny. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The body will be placed in church on Friday at 11 a.m. The family will assemble at 124 Allard Road, Portsmouth.
