CHILD-BEATING SENTENCE

A man found guilty of brutally beating a 2-year-old girl because she soiled her pants while in his care has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Leonard G. Ingram of the 1200 block of Tidewater Drive was convicted Oct. 12 of malicious wounding and was sentenced by Judge John E. Clarkson Tuesday. He was charged with the March 27 beating of Chantia D. Carter, records show.

The toddler suffered kidney and liver damage and underwent surgery four times to correct the damage, court officials said.

Ingram was baby-sitting the child while his girlfriend, the child's mother, went to a store. When the girl soiled her pants, police said, Ingram became enraged and beat her with a belt and his hands.
