Matt Whalen and Whitney Cali have been named to the 1994 National Soccer Coaches of America Association All-America team.
Whalen, a senior at Cox, scored 22 goals, 10 in a post-season run that ended in the state final last spring.
Cali, who recently completed her freshman season at William and Mary, scored 22 goals and had six assists last spring at Green Run.
Each All-American team is made up of 55 players from all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Virginia was allotted one slot on each team.
Whalen and Cali also were recognized as the state players of the year and earned spots on the All-South Region team. The South region consists of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
The boys all-region team features 55 players; the girls all-region has 29 players.
Joining Cali on the girls team is Angela Hucles, a junior at Norfolk Academy. Hucles scored 45 goals and had 25 assists last season. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
