HONORING A CITY THAT HONORS ITS VETERANS

The Department of Defense designated the City of Virginia Beach as a ``Commenmorative Community'' in recognition of its support of the 50th anniversary of World War II rememberances during 1994-95. The city agreed to develop annually three or more educational programs, commemorative activities or events to honor World War II veterans, their familiies and those who served on the home front. As part of its recognition, a flag was raised as the site of the Tidewater Veterans Memorial at 19th Street and the Oceanfront. ILLUSTRATION: Staff photos by MORT FRYMAN

Tying up the commemorative flag was E.L. Dispenette, a World War II

submarine veteran, and ready to haul it up is Jim Moore, a veteran

Marine.

William L. Myers Sr., an Air Force veteran, shows off the flag to

members of the Mayor's Veterans committee.
