CHESAPEAKE ORNAMENTS SHOW SOME LOCAL SCENES

For a real Chesapeake Christmas, decorate your tree with a scene from the city.

The Luncheon Pilot Club of Chesapeake is offering for sale the fourth in its series of ``Focus on Chesapeake'' Christmas Tree ornaments, showing notable city landmarks, scenes and buildings.

This year's edition depicts South Norfolk's Lakeside Park. The design, printed in gold on a green background, was created by Amelia Burton, a former art teacher at Oscar F. Smith High School.

Past designs have included the Great Bridge Locks, created by Wilbur Chadwick, art supervisor of Chesapeake Public Schools, along with the Oak Grove United Methodist Church and Chesapeake City Hall.

``The ornaments have been popular over the years,'' said Joyce Wrestler, public relations officer with the organization. ``Any we have left over from any given year we just carry over to the next year. They are all fast becoming keepsakes throughout the city.''

The tree ornament project was begun to give exposure to Chesapeake's well-known landmarks and to raise funds for the club's community help projects, Wrestler said.

She said the club has supported the Chesapeake Vocational Center, Coastal Club House, Chesapeake Resources Network, the Chesapeake Christmas Committee, the Chesapeake Free Clinic, Chesapeake senior citizens and several scholarships to worthy students.

In addition, the club, with help from grants from the Pilot International Foundation, has been able to place adaptive playground equipment in parks in South Norfolk and Great Bridge.

The Luncheon Pilot Club is one of two in Chesapeake. Both are part of Pilot International, a volunteer service organization for executive, business and professional leaders. The club was born in 1921 in Macon, Ga.

Wrestler said the club's ongoing service focus is on brain-related disorders, and its fund-raising division, the Pilot International Foundation, helps support citizens with disabilities. MEMO: The Luncheon Pilot Club of Chesapeake's 1994 Focus on Chesapeake
