Maude Clarke Kitchen, age 93, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 1994, at Riverside Convalescent Center in Smithfield, Va. She was a native of Ivor and a member of the Ivor United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Richard Jasper Kitchen, who was the founder of R.J. Kitchen & Son Grocery, Ivor, which is now called Will R. Kitchen Enterprises, K&S Super Market, and Kitchen's Mini Marts. She was the mother of the late William ``Bob'' Kitchen.
She is survived by two daughters, Doris K. Groce of Matthew, N.C., and Evelyne K. Soulli of Ivor; four sons, Will R. Kitchen of Ivor, John W. Kitchen of Elizabeth City, N.C., Jack M. Kitchen of Hopewell, Va., and R.J. Kitchen Jr. of Albion, Pa.; 21 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1994, at 11 a.m. at the Ivor United Methodist Church by the Rev. R. Berkley Garnett and the Rev. Jim Rogers. Burial will be in the Ivor Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Will R. Kitchen, Main Street, Ivor. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is handling the arrangements.
