TALKING TURKEY ABOUT FOOD

Regarding Leslie King's letter of Nov. 18 about sparing turkeys: For what?

Eating turkey on Thanksgiving was established as an American tradition before this land became a great nation. Such traditions make this nation great. Why should we abandon this one?

These turkeys give farmers, merchants and grocery stores a livelihood that could hardly be met by growing beans or corn.

Why do vegetarians want everyone to abide by their hoax? Don't they know that it takes another life form to feed others to live?

Humans are like many other creatures who were designed by our creator to be omnivorous. Otherwise, we might have extremely long guts and be chewing cuds as ruminants.

Animals have their role in life just as plants, rocks, streams and, even, humans. To deny their role in the food chain is blasphemy.

I agree that animals should not be abused or mistreated, but they should be consumed for food. In some Third World countries, where cows and other animals are sacred, many people are starving while cows roam without regard.

Let us enjoy the fine traditions of our holidays without remorse.
