It scares me that there are people who believe columnist Don Feder's rubbish. His Dec. 5 column on welfare was yet another example of the trash that certain self-righteous conservatives love to hear:
Blame the mother. It's her stupid fault for getting pregnant in the first place. She wants to live on ``$8,000 to $12,000'' a year in ``free'' money, so she goes out and gets pregnant so she can go through nine months of fun while her minimum-wage paychecks dwindle.
Let me tell Mr. Feder that $8,000 to $12,000 a year ain't nothing. I make less than $10,000 after taxes, and it's hard, even living by myself.
Life is tough all over. If Mr. Feder is so concerned about poor women getting a short free ride in their otherwise miserable existence, he could quit his job, become a social worker and help out somehow. Otherwise, he should be quiet.
