George Benjamin Matthews, 64, of Route 1, a retired mail carrier, died Dec. 13, 1994, in Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk.
Mr. Matthews was born in Hertford County and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Murfreesboro. He was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church and the Murfreesboro Exchange Club.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Hurst Matthews; two sons, Melvin Matthews and Thelton Benjamin Matthews, both of Murfreesboro; a sister, Elizabeth Jones of Harrellsville; a brother, Julian Thomas Matthews of Drummonds, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Mount Tabor Baptist Church by the Rev. Wint Hale. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. The family will receive friends at the residence.
