Will F. Corbin, the Daily Press' managing editor for the past seven years, was promoted to the top newsroom job Tuesday.
As editor, Corbin succeeds Jack W. Davis Jr., who became president and publisher of The Daily Press Inc. in September. Davis selected Corbin after narrowing down his search to about a dozen candidates and then to four finalists.
``I thought he was the best qualified by ability and experience - his passionate approach to journalism, his strong management skills and his commitment to serving readers and improving communities,'' Davis said.
Corbin, 44, will oversee the newspaper's entire news-gathering operation. The promotion is effective immediately.
``I'm following a very tough act,'' Corbin said. ``But when the opportunity to be the leader of this newspaper arises, it's not one I'd want to pass up,'' he said.
Corbin and Davis said readers wouldn't see any drastic changes in their morning paper. ``The only change readers will notice is that it will continue to get better and better,'' Davis said. ``Will deserves considerable credit for making the Daily Press as good as it is.'' by CNB
