Jackson Hewitt Inc., the Virginia Beach-based tax service, reported a third-quarter net loss of $1.2 million, or 31 cents a share, essentially the same amount it lost in the same period last year. Jackson Hewitt typically reports losses in quarters other than tax season. It said it expects to have 1,200 offices nationwide in the coming tax season, compared with 878 last year. It said a recent adverse Internal Revenue Service decision related to refund-anticipation loans could reduce the number of such loans issued next year and thus hurt earnings. by CNB
