Continental Airlines is eliminating direct flights from Norfolk to
Baltimore starting Jan. 10. Airline officials said the route isn't profitable
enough to sustain one flight a day, let alone the four it's been flying.
Continental swept into Norfolk International Airport with its ``peanuts''
fares in October 1993 and began offering $89 one-way, direct flights to
Baltimore last December. The airline also will cut temporarily two of its four
Norfolk-to-Boston flights. Those flights should resume in March or April, an
airline manager said.
