Robert E. Bankes, 63, a retired Navy MSC, died Dec. 15, 1994, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Bankes was born in Merritta, Ill., and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Bankes; his mother and father, Alberta L. Bankes and Harold Bankes of Canton, Ill.; his son, Gerry L. Bankes of Virginia Beach; three daughters, Vicki Lynn Lang, Debra Sue Beachum and Cheri Ann Hardin, all of Norfolk; a sister, Marilyn Madson of Lewiston, Ill.; a brother, Ronald Bankes of Canton, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, in Forest Lawn Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
