The Churchland Soccer League has established an account at Commerce Bank to assist in the medical expenses of 11-year-old Jason Wallbank, a member of the league who was seriously injured in a recent fire at his home.
Wallbank played in the Churchland league and was a referee in the league's division for 5- and 6-year-olds. He also participated with the Elizabeth River Soccer Club.
``Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wallbank family,'' said Richard Carmichael, president of the Churchland Soccer League. ``We know that Jason's medical bills will be extremely high considering the extent of his injuries. We are hopeful that every family involved in youth soccer in Churchland will contribute to the fund we are starting.''
Contributions can be made at any Commerce Bank with checks made payable to the Churchland Soccer League's Jason Wallbank Burn Fund or mailed to P.O. Box 1144, Portsmouth, Va. 23705.
The Wallbank family has been involved in youth soccer for several years. Jason's father, Ashley, is a coach in both the Churchland League and in the Elizabeth River Soccer Club. He also was injured in the fire when rescuing his son. by CNB
