A party celebrating the end of a person's military service ended in gunfire early Sunday, leaving one man dead and another in serious condition.
The shooting occurred about 12:20 a.m. at an apartment in the 6700 block of E. Tanners Creek Road, police said.
Police spokesman Larry Hill said about 20 people were at the party when an argument broke out among some guests. Someone pulled out a gun and opened fire. It was unclear whether the two men who were shot were involved in the argument.
Wade H. Tavorn Jr., 21, who is from California, was pronounced dead at the scene. It was unclear if he was still in the Navy.
Wayne A. Graham, 22, who is stationed at the Dam Neck Fleet Combat Training Center, was in serious but stable condition Sunday at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Both of the victims were guests at the party. Police said they had identified no suspects as of Sunday afternoon.
