John Robert Jenkins Jr., 82, of the 500 block of Arbor Road, an attorney, died Dec. 18, 1994, in his home.
Mr. Jenkins was born in Pitt County, N.C, and was the widower of Marjorie Smith Jenkins. He was engaged in the general practice of law for 59 years. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Ahoskie; was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II; member of the N.C. State Bar; N.C. Bar Association; N.C. Academy of Trial Lawyers; was past president of Ahoskie Kiwanis Club; former member and past president of Aulander Ruritan Club; and past vice president of Ruritan National. He was also the former mayor of Aulander and former chairman of the Bertie County Democratic Party.
Survivors include a son, Robert C. Jenkins of Ahoskie; three sisters, Louise J. Carson of Robersonville, Myrtle M. Pritchard of Elizabeth City and Margaret M. Elder of Marshall, Texas; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Claire Jenkins and Emily Lois Jenkins of Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Phillip Glick. Burial will be in Robersonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and other times at the home of Robert C. Jenkins, 10 Shaftesbury Road, Ahoskie. Memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Ahoskie, N.C. 27910.
