SAY NO TO EASTERN SHORE PRISON

Recent articles concerning a proposed correctional facility on the Eastern Shore have convinced me that your newspaper is merely a mouthpiece for the Virginia Department of Corrections and its slanted views. You have really missed the point as to why many people are opposed to a correctional facility in this location.

A correctional facility in itself might not be a ``bad'' industry for many areas. However, with the Eastern Shore's unique geography, limited resources and fragile environment, placing a prison there is a totally irresponsible land use on the part of our state officials.

Perhaps you should consider interviewing some of the individuals who are leading the opposition to find out why they wish to preserve Virginia's only remaining coastline for a more appropriate purpose; that of allowing the citizens of the entire state to enjoy it.
