In ``Remembering Christmas in the '50s'' (Another View, Dec. 14), Robert B. Whitcomb joins a host of other '60s-generation leftist elitists in a concentrated effort to discredit the traditional values that existed prior to 1965.
Whitcomb pictures his parents' generation as one characterized by boozers, heavy smokers, philanderers and dissemblers. Chalk up another strike for revisionist history.
Of course there was misbehavior in the 1950s, just as in every other earlier period. But moral standards were much higher and most people strove to live a decent and honorable life.
The moral relativism that has been forced on us for the past 25 years has resulted in major increases in family breakup, child abuse, violent crime, substance abuse, acceptance of aberrant sexual behavior, disregard for others, illegitimate births, dishonesty and a deterioration of America's image throughout the world.
I'll take the '50s any day.
