QUICK SANTA TURNAROUND, PLEASE, FOR HUTCH'S CHRISTMAS WISH LIST

Santa Claus

North Pole

Dear Santa:

Sonofagun, I've done it again. Waited until the last minute to send in my gift list. I suppose that you're eventually going to get disgusted with me and call off this entire thing. I just hope it isn't this year.

You see, the gifts really aren't for me. They're for some of the B.S.O. (brave, strong, outdoor) folks in Hampton Roads, the North Carolina Outer Banks and Virginia's Eastern Shore.

To wit:

For Bill Hall of Bloxom, his first Eastern Shore tarpon.

For Ed Davidson of Cherrystone, a year's supply of Brooklyn bagels.

For Bill Pruitt of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, free enrollment in Sportfishing Economics 101.

For local tackle-shop and marina operators, free transportation to VMRC meetings.

For Joanna, David and Andrew, the kids next door, more trips to the doughnut shop.

For Charlie Salyers of Norfolk, a year's supply of Dr. Pepper.

For his brother Jimmy, a good night's sleep.

For Jack Hood of Virginia Beach, some snore-no-more pills.

For John Hall, Barry Truitt and the rest of the gang at The Nature Conservancy, more money for their wonderful Virginia Coast Reserve.

For Jack and Ellen Travelstead of Williamsburg, a couple of young horses.

For Merle Haddock of Portsmouth, a fishing trip to Nags Head with his cronies.

For Roney Leitner of Portsmouth, a home on the Eastern Shore.

For Howard Hood of Virginia Beach and his hunting companion, a few places to hunt deer on the Eastern Shore.

For Charlsie Crumb of Oyster, Va., more raspberry bushes.

For Jimmy D. Flowers of Cofield, N.C., a trip to Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, like the one in 1966.

For Fred Ralston of Onancock, a replacement for Elvira.

For Sunny Briggs of Manteo, an order for a 55-footer.

For Damon Tatem of Nags Head, energy to keep fighting the good fight.

For Kenny Taylor of Virginia Beach, lots of fish-filled days for the next 30 striped bass seasons.

For Lloyd Dixon of Virginia Beach, a four-week rifle season in Bath County.

For Del. Robert Bloxom of Muttonhunk, Va., a few fishing trips.

For Del. Howard Copeland of Norfolk, a more seaworthy stomach.

For Charlie Johnson of Chuckatuck, a 50-pound Pig Point striper.

For Gary Seay of Wilsonia Neck, a 10-pound Hungars Creek speckled trout.

For Tom Hunter of Virginia Beach, a job as a professional speckled trout fisherman.

For Wallace Walton of Suffolk, a cash buyer for the My Judi.

For Mark Mills of Virginia Beach, a full-time modeling job . . . in Virginia.

For Ray Haynie of Cape Center Restaurant, lots of fresh salmon and crabs for his stuffed mushroooms.

For Tom and George Savage of Cape Charles, a pristine Kings Creek.

For all Eastern Shore flounder fishermen, 15-fish bag limits.

For Rick Morris of Virginia Beach, first place in the 1995 Bass Masters Classic.

For Rick Falls of Zuni, Virginia's first 60-pound freshwater striper.

For Jim Wright, host of ``Saltwater Fishing With Dr. Jim,'' a lifetime supply of razors.

For Claude Bain, director of the Virginia Salt Water Fishing Tournament, another 2,500-citation year.

For George Forrest of Poquoson, a member of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, one vote in support of recreational fishing.

For Linda Morris of Kill Devil Hills, another 100-pound Eastern Shore tarpon.

For Tick Heath of Cape Charles, another good laugh at the expense of John Widgeon.

For Kemper Goffigon III of Farmer's Delight, a Virginia win in the Independence Bowl.

For John Trexler of Virginia Beach, enough free fish to last until the next striped bass season.

For Dallas Newsome of Virginia Beach, patience to keep on enduring John Trexler.

For the O.F.'s Breakfast Club at McDonald's in Kempsville, more elections to argue about.

For Mike Williams of Portsmouth, a new Nikon camera to replace the one he gave me.

For Nina Matthews of Assawoman, Va., being the first woman angler-of-the-year in the Virginia Salt Water Fishing Tournament.

For Joe Perkins of Norfolk, a new heart to replace his worn-out one.

For Ruth and Nancy Cobb of Norfolk, something nice just for being nice people.

For Charlie Hays of Virginia Beach, a special gift for being the best, busiest weighmaster in Virginia.

For Pat Hutchinson, her husband's promise to help her clean the windows next spring.

For everyone, peace on earth and good will to all others.
