A 51-year-old man was arrested by police Thursday for allegedly fondling an 8-year-old girl.
The man, Edward F. Burrell, of the 400 block of Back Acres Road, has been charged with one count of aggravated sexual battery and is being held without bond at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center, according to police.
The incident occurred on the night of Dec. 12, according to police spokesman Lou Thurston. The girl was spending the night with relatives in Burrell's home. The child informed her mother of the incident a few hours later, and the mother in turn notified police.
Burrell is scheduled to appear in General District Court Tuesday for a bond hearing.
