Charles Ellis Massie, Sr., 54, formerly of Amherst County, Va., departed this life Friday, Dec. 23, 1994, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.
His wife is Mrs. Nannie Haynes Massie. Born Dec. 17, 1940, he was the son of Mrs. Mary Tinsley Massie and the late Samuel Massie. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one son, Charles E. Massie Jr. of Hampton; one daughter, Mrs. Cynthia M. Bartley of Richmond; two brothers, Samuel H. Massie and Scott S. Massie, both of Amherst; two sisters, Mrs. Emily R. Brown and Ms. Mary L. Massie, both of Amherst; two grandchildren, Shea Bartley and Paris Bartley; one son-in-law, Gerald E. Bartley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at the Piney Grove Baptist Church, Amherst County, by the Rev. Charles Lewis, eulogist. Interment will be in the Piney Hill Church Cemetery, Pleasantview, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Community Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the home of Samuel Massie, Route 1, Box 78, Amherst.
